Edmonton Community Midwives
Please be patient with us as we make our transition from the Edmonton Midwifery Cooperative to our new practice group, Edmonton Community Midwives. We have the same philosophies, some of the original midwives, and some great new friends. This new group will continue to serve our community in the same way, continue to focus on providing excellent, evidence based midwifery care, while meeting the needs of our clients and our midwives in Edmonton, Alberta.
We are a team of Registered Midwives, in the inner-city ward of O-day’min, in amiskwacîwâskahikan (ᐊᒥᐢᑿᒌᐚᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ) also known as Edmonton, Alberta. We intentionally provide care for equity deserving clients and families, and in all our interactions aim to provide evidence-based care that is respectful and inclusive of all people. We welcome families of any gender, sexual orientation, family structure, faith, age, cognitive or physical ability, socio-economic status, or ethnic background. We are passionate about community, and hope to nurture relationships among families in the communities we serve.
We practice with the philosophy that pregnant people are the most appropriate decision makers regarding their bodies and healthcare. As such, we encourage informed choice decision making and aim to educate and support our clients in their reproductive choices.
Where we work.
Edmonton Community Midwives are located in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Beaver Hills House), also known as Edmonton, in the ward of O-day’min. We acknowledge our occupation of the traditional lands of Indigenous communities including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Saulteaux, Niitsítapi (Blackfoot), and the Métis peoples. The midwives and employees of this practice accept occupation as an obligation to continually learn to be gracious guests on Treaty Six Territory.
We acknowledge the midwives and the families whose lands we inhabit, and the traditional knowledge that has sustained people since time immemorial. We strive to honour the spirit and resiliency of those who came before us by committing this space and our work to the safety, respect, and inclusivity of all people.
